A brawl at the Full Moon Saloon in Alma Center early Sunday sent the bartender to the hospital and required numerous cops to break up the melee, police said.
Details about the fight were still sketchy Tuesday. Jackson County Sheriff Duane Waldera did not return messages seeking comment either Monday or Tuesday.
According to Black River Falls police records, officer Thomas Cooper was called by sheriff's deputy Mike Johnson at 1:46 a.m. to respond to a bar fight involving more than 25 people.
The police log said all available officers were en route — even two from Clark County — and the fight was escalating, with people smashing windows and injuries that required an ambulance.
Cooper said he arrived at 1:54 a.m. and helped break up the fight and separated witnesses. He left the bar and went to the hospital to talk to bartender Erika Swenson.
Swenson, 28, of Hixton had been struck in the head with a beer bottle and was knocked out for more than a minute, witnesses said. She was taken to the hospital by a private party.
It was unclear Tuesday if there were any arrests or charges. District attorney Gerald Fox also could not be reached for comment.
Alma Center village records show the bar’s liquor license is held by Elaine Bowman of Alma Center. A man who answered the phone Tuesday afternoon at the bar said Jeff Bowman was the owner, but he was not available for comment.
