My Palm’s Supper Club Story begins as a child when my parents would take my family; aunts and uncles, cousins and friends to the Palms.
I remember the decorations made a BIG impression on me and also the hummingbirds were a treat to watch at their many feeders. But I couldn't seem to get enough of that wonderful chicken.
As I recall at that time the restaurant was the basic building. My family would frequently meet relatives and friends there for reunions, birthdays, anniversaries and just for a good time and the excellent food and service.
My parents, Leo and Edna Christianson owned and operated the Black River Café during the 70s through the early 80's; so that was my introduction to the "restaurant world" making me enlightened to the many complications as well as the gratification that occur running a successful business.
After unpleasant experiences at different eateries it was always a relief and a given that our evening and meal at the Palm’s would be a savorable sensation always followed with "dum dums" on our departure.
Returning to Black River after graduating high school, I'd always look forward to dinning at The Palm's. A successful business which was tastefully expanded and ahead of its time regarding a non-smoking section; the food continually maintained its delectable level. A challenge every owner of the Palm's succeeded in.
I returned to Black River Falls from Wash. D.C. in 1990 with my husband James to raise our three daughters in a similar fashion as I had grown up and so they could get to know grandpa. Grandpa Christianson would treated us to the Palm's numerous times. I am grateful that our girls had that dinning experience with their grandfather.
Yes it was dismal news of the fire. At first I was struck with disbelief. It couldn't be true!! Not the Palm's!! I regret not getting there for one last meal before the disaster! We do have many wonderful and fun memories and a few photos taken with various family members.
Is the rumor true that they will rebuild? I know it will never be the same but it was one of those "institutions" that numerous folks would take visitors to share the Palms experience; the friendly prompt service, the food and ambience. I know this establishment will be greatly missed.
In the meantime, I WANT SOME PALM'S CHICKEN!!!!!! Guess I will have to be patient.
