Three Minnesota men and another from West Bend were charged last week in Jackson County Circuit Court in connection with the Effit music festival in northern Jackson County.
Criminal complaints were filed against Derek LaPlante, 19, Brainerd, Minn.; Derek Delgado, 30, Duluth, Minn; Jeramiah Rice, 28, Minneapolis, Minn; and Stephen Cannavo, 25, West Bend.
LaPlante, Rice and Cannavo were arrested after authorities conducted an undercover operation at Whispering Pines Campground, where the music festival took place the second weekend of July. Undercover agents conducted buys July 11 and 12.
LaPlante was charged with the manufacture or delivery of LSD, a felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana, both misdemeanors.
Rice faces four felony charges - delivery of methamphetamine, manufacture or delivery of LSD, manufacture or delivery of ketamine (two counts) and a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Cannavo faces a felony charge of manufacture or delivery of marijuana.
All three men posted bonds and were ordered to not have contact with each other. Rice posted at $10,000 cash bond and will appear in court for an initial appearance Aug. 4. Cannavo posted a $2,500 bond and also will appear Aug. 4. LaPlante's bond was $2,500 and he is scheduled to appear in court Monday.
Delgado was charged with possession with intent to delivery marijuana, a felony, and a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia after his vehicle was stopped after it rolled through a stop sign in the town of Garfield, the complaint said.
A drug dog alerted to drugs and Delgado produced five containers of marijuana. He also is wanted on a felony warrant from California.
Delgado posted a $2,000 bond and will appear in court Monday.
Man faces fifth drunken driving
Jeffrey C. Taylor, 48, of Black River Falls has been charged with his fifth drunken driving offense.
A criminal complaint says Taylor was arrested July 12 with an alcohol reading of .17 percent, more than twice the legal limit of .08.
Taylor was pulled over on Hwy. 54 after he swerved several times, the complaint said. He has previous drunken driving convictions in 1990, 1994 and 1997 in Jackson County and 2004 in Waukesha County.
Taylor man faces drug charges
A Taylor man reporting to jail for a court-ordered booking on a disorderly conduct charge has been charged with possession of narcotics after he came to jail with painkillers that were not his, a complaint said.
A criminal complaint charges Derek Kwiatkowski, 18, with possession of narcotic drugs, a felony, and misdemeanor bail jumping. The complaint says Kwiatkowski had a bag of bills in his sock while he was being searched during the booking process July 14.
Kwiatkowski said Percocet pills belonged to his grandmother. He is free on a $5,000 cash bond and will appear in court Monday.
