Police have recovered evidence from the places involved in a recent spree of burglaries in Alma Center that may lead to arrests in the case.

Items recovered include a black and red custom-embroidery hat and a pair of leather gloves with the initials 'TN' written in permanent black marker, a statement from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office said. Blood evidence was also recovered from the Strawberry Square Gas Station.

Detective Tim Nichols of the Jackson County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday morning the department does have possible suspects although no names or information are being released as of now.

On July 8, police were sent to businesses including Strawberry Square, Alma Center Garage, AC Builders, Alma Center Meat Locker, Jan's Place and Alma Center Laundromat. Forced entry was made into each business, including a lot of glass breakage. Money was the only thing found missing.

Eyewitness accounts also indicate there were at least two suspects involved in the burglaries.

Nichols said the next step in the investigation is trying to contact the possible suspects and obtaining DNA samples from them to see if it matches with DNA found on the evidence.

The burglaries in Alma Center are believed to be connected to similar burglaries in Black River Falls. On June 13, police discovered a large plate glass window had been smashed at the Sunrise Café, 710 Water St. Another window was smashed the week before in a previous burglary. Also on June 13, a burglary was reported at Haag Gym, 323 Main St. A plate glass window to the left of the building's entrance was smashed.

" Sounds to me like all of you should go to school and get your career started in law enforcement. You could really add alot with all your intelligence. Talk the Talk, Walk the Walk. "

" You are aware that this article is mostly about break ins in Alma Center. So the BRFPD wouldn't have a lot to do with that. They mention the breakins in Black River to add to the article, but its about Alma Center. "

wow...it never ends..... wrote on Jul 30, 2008 3:42 PM:

" You know what? I live in Brockway and whenever I have called the police you know who shows up? Jackson County! Why? Because the Brockway "officers" are either not on duty or sitting out by the Casino trying to nab ever car flying through there. You think you people are getting the short end of the stick? wow. Brockway has 3 vehicles and VERY RARELY do we even see these vehicles anywhere but the parking lot. I see the county vehicles parked at the town hall and running radar around Brockway than I do our amazing high paid Chief Eversom. Gilberg may do nothing, but you haven't got a clue to a Chief doing nothing until you live in Brockway. Our policing in our neighborhood is terrible. Before we had Brockway police the City PD or County would sit by Gebhardt school every morning and run radar. The vehicles tend to really fly through there. Since we got brockway police, I can count on one hand how many times they have sat there and protected our young ones in the mornings as they head to school. Brockway is wasting money. Keep the County working, Brockway needs them!! "

RE to many cops..... wrote on Jul 30, 2008 8:58 AM:

" I agree, why is it that JASCO cops are over looked on their faults? I know of two of JASCO Officers that have gotten a "drunk drive" and still have their jobs. Now how fair is that? They are not any better than the rest of the people of Jackson County. They should be held more responsible because of the jobs they have, right Officer "B". "

" According to the Minneapolis PD website they employ 800 sworn officers, the last census shows the City of Minneapolis has 369,051 people. Roughly 1 Officer for every 461 people. The BRFPD employs 7 sworn Officers with roughly 3,618 people in the city or roughly one for every 516 people. If you are going to bash the BRFPD there are plenty of things to bash about, staffing is not one of them.

Oh, and the numbers for the BRFPD include Chief Gilberg...and he doesn't count because he doesn't do anything. "

To many cops for small town like Black River FallsWI wrote on Jul 26, 2008 12:22 AM:

" It's sad to see how Black River Falls works it's very political and matters who you are and what your occupation is, rather than treating everyone equally. If your a cop or a judge you can drive drunk and get by with anything is that fair? But if your just plain ole Joe your going down. We have more cops in Black River Falls then they do in a city like Minneapolis,MN (per capita) and they have real crimes there murders, drug dealers, prostitution, etc. I realize we need police but do we need as many as we have? Seems like a lot of tax payer money being wasted if you ask a lot of locals. Plus gas is $4 gallon and they drive around doing nothing for their whole 8 hour shift seems like a lot more tax money down the tubes. Time to cut the force down!! "
