A Black River Falls man is believed to have drowned after his body was found last week at Perry Creek State Park Boat Landing.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, the body of David Ronald Orozco, 61, was found at about 4 p.m. on Aug. 7.

Dispatch received a phone call concerning a missing canoeist just before 9 p.m. on Aug. 6. The information received was that a father and his two adult daughters had gone on a canoe trip on the Black River.

The trip was planned to take two hours and conclude around 5 p.m. at Mason’s Landing, according to the sheriff’s department. At the time of the call, the two daughters were accounted for; however Orozco was still missing.

Orozco’s body was later found at Perry Creek State Park Boat Landing. Coroner Mike Quinn of the Jackson County Coroner’s Office pronounced him deceased at 4:40 a.m. Quinn advised that there will be a follow-up medical autopsy conducted.

This incident remains under investigation by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department pending toxicology and autopsy results.

The Brockway Police Department, Jackson County Dive Unit, Black River Rescue and Fire and Med Link Air Ambulance assisted the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department with the search for the missing man. Chief Deputy Mark Moan along with his bloodhound Clyde also assisted with the search.
