A Brodhead, Wis., woman died last weekend after her ATV was struck by a vehicle in Knapp Township.
Karen Gibson, 60, died after an ATV she was driving was struck by a vehicle on Fish Creek Road at about 4:22 p.m. on Aug. 23, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department.
A female child passenger on the ATV received non-life-threatening injuries.
The operator of the motor vehicle — identified as Phillip J. Holloway, 23 of Warrens, Wis. — was taken into custody. On Tuesday, Holloway was charged with homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle, operating while intoxicated causing injury and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated-second offense in Jackson County Circuit Court.
There were three other crashes reported in Jackson County over the weekend which are believed to be alcohol related in nature, according to Sheriff Duane Waldera. Waldera said he strongly encourages everyone to avoid drinking and driving and to remember the importance of safe and responsible driving.
