An 18-year-old Hixton man was charged last week with abusing his younger brother after reportedly shooting him with an air gun and then choking him.

Glennon M. Sechser was charged with one count of physical abuse of a child by intentionally causing harm in Jackson County Circuit Court last week.

The charge stems from an incident that reportedly took place on Aug. 26 while a group of friends were playing “war games” with air guns at a Hixton residence.

According to the criminal complaint, the group was shooting guns at each other when an 11-year-old was accidentally shot in the ear. When he fell to the ground and began to cry, his brother, Sechser, reportedly told him to stop crying and called him “a baby.”

When the boy told his brother to shut up, Sechser reportedly shot him over 10 times in the back at close range with an air rifle and then proceeded to choke him.

According to the complaint, the boy said Sechser eventually freed him, but the boy then threatened to shoot Sechser with an air gun. Sechser then reportedly threw a knife at the boy and enticed him to attack; when the boy took the knife and threw it into nearby woods, Sechser reportedly assaulted him again.

Reports state the boy’s 13-year-old brother, who was also playing with the group, said he threatened to shoot Sechser with an air gun during the attack, but Sechser then threatened to hit him. The 13-year-old said he unsuccessfully called for help on his cell phone, and everyone else was too afraid to do anything.

If found guilty, Sechser could face up to a $10,000 fine and six years imprisonment.

Sechser was scheduled for a bond/bail hearing on Tuesday.

Well he committed big boy crimes.... wrote on Sep 14, 2008 10:39 PM:

" Glennon M. Sechser, 18, Hixton, was booked for criminal damage, two counts of burglary, criminal trespass to dwelling, theft of moveable property, OWOC takes and drives and intentionally causing bodily harm to a child.

Too bad and it is quite sad that so many kids can't make good decisions. "

" I used to have bb gun fights with my brother and neighbor kids back in the day and no, my parents didn't know. I recall getting ticked off cause I got hit a few times where it stung. (we were smart enough to know to wear extra layers of clothes and our old snowmobile helmets with face shields because if our parents found out, bye bye bb guns and hello rear end tanning) But this guy has some serious issues. Choking your own brother and repeatedly shooting him at close range? I think someone should hold him down while his brother gets a chance to get even! See if he enjoys it. Tough guy to take it out on an 11 year old. He ought to try it with someone his own age and size. "

" I feel that based off evidence in this story, that yea...the big brother may be a bit of a bully. I also agree that this could be brothers rough housing to an excessive degree. I as an older brother used to torment my sister and her friends, and feel that I try my best to be in control of my consious actions and how that may play out......but as a kid, that was still maturing(still doing this one), there were a lot of things that I would look at today as negative things done to my sister, but she is fine and I grew out of the teasing as I aged. This is one of those stories, where the average days background is needed to fully judge this 18yr old kid. Is he always a bully, does he get in fights a lot etc..... Maybe he helps churches and old people and snapped and made a bad decision etc. As far as shooting his brother close range, regardless of reason, that is messed up and if intentional, very cruel. "

" Yup!

Teach 'em all to be soldiers and play shoot 'em up!

Maybe throw in some UFC or WWF,anything violent.

And as for calling them "loosers", how many kids can there be in Hixton?
If they didn't play with their brothers, and kept to kids their own age how many friends would they have,1 or none.
If those same kids were building a treehouse or playin' ball at the park would you look at them as loosers then? "

" The headline ought to read, "Hixton Man Charged After Shooting Brother With Air Gun". Being 18, he's an "Adult" first, then "Teen". How come his minor-age sibling's parents are not being held accountable for this offense? "

" maybe there are no parents around and he plays with kids because they're all a bunch of LOSERS "

" Where were the parents??? Why would someone 18 be playing with kids younger and with a airgun?? "
