Sparta’s well attended and professionally conducted candidates forum for the 92nd Assembly District on Oct. 2 has to be called successful.
The room, though not real large, was quite full of interested citizens attentively listening to the candidates answering general questions on the economy, health care, environment and energy. The candidates were both able to answer the questions and then comment on the other’s answers as well.
After the initial questioning, questions from the floor were submitted on a variety of topics. Judge Ziegler did a magnificent job as moderator.
Mark Radcliffe, an attorney from Black River Falls and the Democratic Party candidate, had a great answer identifying unfunded mandates from Madison as a serious problem for local governments. This was one of many well thought out answers he provided.
Dan Hellman, the human resources manager for his family’s company and the Republican Party candidate, confirmed my previous thoughts that he is the best candidate for this assembly seat. He not only is the more experienced — district attorney for two terms, practicing attorney and now a company HR manager — but in my opinion presented better responses to the many questions.
It was obvious that Dan has studied the issues. For many of today’s issues, it appears Dan Hellman wants better programs, better managed, better results and less cost to the taxpayer.
So to the organizers of the successful Sparta candidates forum, thanks for a good job well done. And, to the voting citizens of the 92nd Assembly District, join me in voting for Dan Hellman on Nov. 4.
