Monday-Friday

Oct. 13-17

The Scholastic Book Fair will be coming to Black River Falls Middle School.

The book fair will be open 3:30-7 p.m. on Oct. 13 and Oct. 16 as well as 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 16 in the middle school LMC on the second floor. On Oct. 14-15, it will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The book fair is geared towards young adult readers.

Thursday

Oct. 16

Pam Bjerke will talk about and demonstrate the art of knitting at 6 p.m. at the Black River Falls Library. Pam operates a llama and sheep farm and uses the wool for her knitted goods. Learn about and see her unique creations. Free and open to all.

Saturday

Oct. 18

Sons of Norway Fossen Lodge 534 will meet at the Black River Country Bank at 7 p.m. Pot luck dinner. Program will be Why Kings and Queens Don't Wear Crowns, read by Princess Martha Louise of Norway via a CD.

The Falls Players of Black River Falls will be conducting an introductory actor's workshop from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Presenters will include directors and board members from the Falls Players Community Theater and will be held at the Lunda Theater located at 1202 Pierce St., in the Black River Falls Middle School. The workshop is open to anyone over the age of 12. There is a small fee for this workshop that will include lunch. Call Falls Players at (715) 896-4123 or (715) 896-9091 for more information and to make a reservation to attend.

Oct. 19

South Beaver Creek Lutheran Church, located at W16679 Highway D between Melrose and Ettrick, will hold their Fall Dinner, Bake Sale and Raffle from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Family style menu: Meatballs, mashed potatoes and gravy, lefsa, corn, cranberries, coleslaw, dinner roll, coffee, milk and pie slices. Adults $8, kids 6-12 $4. Carryouts are available.

New Hope Community Lutheran Church of Northfield is celebrating its 20th anniversary, with a special worship service at 10:30 a.m. followed by their Annual Harvest Dinner. The public is invited to join the celebration. Dinner will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. New Hope Lutheran Church is located between Northfield and York just off Highway 121. There will be a free will offering. The event is co-sponsored by Thrivent for Lutherans.

Oct. 20

The Jackson County Chronicle will hold a candidate forum for the 92nd Assembly District race featuring Republican Dan Hellman of Sparta and Democrat Mark Radcliffe of Black River Falls.The forum is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Black River Falls Middle School, located at 1202 Pierce St.

The debate is scheduled to be broadcast live on WWIS-FM 99.7. Jackson County Chronicle publisher Chris Hardie will serve as moderator of the forum. Hellman is the former Monroe County district attorney and former 3rd Congressional District GOP chairman. He is currently the human resources director for Hellman Distributors in Sparta. Radcliffe is an attorney in Black River Falls.

Thursday

Oct. 23

The Jackson County Zoning and Planning Department, along with MSA Professional Services Inc., wish to announce the Kick-off Meeting for Smart Growth planning in Jackson County. This meeting will be held in the Jackson County Bank Community Room, 8 Main Street, Black River Falls beginning at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will inform board members and municipal planning commission members on the planning process, time frame, duties, etc. for completing the county's and municipality's new land use plan.

Oct 25

The Fall Extravaganza will be held at the Taylor Municipal building in Taylor from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lunch will be served and the free will donation will go to the Jackson County Food Pantry. There will be many booths to shop at. For more information call Kathy Webb at (715) 963-4097.

Oct. 27

The Black River Falls High School Choral Concert will be at 7 p.m. at the Lunda Theater in Black River Falls.

Tuesday

Oct. 28

An underage drinking forum will be held at the Alma Center High School auditorium from 6-7:30 p.m. There will be free Jan's Pizza, refreshments and baked goods for supper - 7-7:30 p.m.

Friday

Oct. 31

Residents of Pine View Care Center and Terrace tenants, will welcome area youngsters to their Safe Trick or Treat. The annual event, sponsored by Pine View's Auxiliary, will be on from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Ghosts and goblins should enter both facilities by the front doors. An adult must accompany all children.

Nov. 1

The Annual Diabetes Fair will be held at the Holiday Inn from 8 a.m. to noon.

Nov. 2

Standard time begins at 2 a.m.; set clocks back one hour.

Nov. 10

Diabetic support meetings are held the second Monday of each month at the Black River Memorial Conference Room at 10:30 a.m.

BRF Arts Alliance presents University of La Crosse Faculty Classical Musical Ensemble; United Methodist Church in BRF; 3 p.m.; Pre-concert featuring 3 Hand Bell Choirs from BRF.

Wednesday

Nov. 26

The next Black River Falls community blood drive will be held from 12- 5:30 p.m. For this drive there will be a location change to the Holiday Inn.
