A Sparta woman was charged with theft after she reportedly cashed in an acquaintance’s $301 casino ticket and then left.
Dawn L. Stark, 38, was charged with one count of misdemeanor theft in Jackson County Circuit Court last week.
The charge stems from an incident that occurred at Majestic Pines Casino on Nov. 2 just before 2 a.m.
According to the criminal complaint, Stark encountered another woman she knew from the casino, and the two talked on and off during the night.
At one point, Stark told the woman she was out of money and asked the woman if she wanted to play her machine, which she did, according to the complaint. Stark got drinks for the woman and stood by and watched her play the machine. Eventually, the woman received a winning combination on the machine and won $300.
According to the complaint, the woman told Stark she had to go to the bathroom, and Stark told her she would cash the ticket for her. Video surveillance showed Stark cashing the ticket, going into the bathroom for a couple seconds and then leaving the building.
Stark has an adjourned initial appearance set for Dec. 15.
