A fire at Levis Creek Forest Products that caused almost $1.4 million in damages two weeks ago was electrical.
According to Black River Falls Fire Department Chief Steve Schreiber, the cause of the Dec. 13 fire that occurred at the Levis Creek Forest Products —located at W9888 West Bauer Road in Black River Falls — has been narrowed down to a bathroom fixture.
According to Schreiber, a forensic electrical engineer has been able to locate electrical arching in a bathroom fixture. Further investigation and testing is going to be done on the fixture.
A damage estimate for the structure and contents has been placed at $1,357,000.
The Black River Falls Fire Department, along with Hixton and Merrillan fire departments, was sent to the business at 8:23 a.m. on Dec. 13. Upon arrival, the fire department encountered fire coming out of a loading dock overhead door and smoke coming from the roof eaves around the entire building.
There were no injuries reported, although the metal building sustained moderate to heavy heat damage. Twenty firefighters were on scene for nearly five hours.
